Karen Kawa

Karen Kawa joined A Red Orchid Theatre’s Ensemble in 2007. She was the Costume Designer for Grey House, The Sea Horse, Blasted, The Hothouse, The Meek, Fatboy (for which she was also designed the hair & makeup), Not A Game For Boys, Weapon of Mass Impact, With or Without Wings, A Very Merry Children’s Scientology Pageant (for which she was also the Scenic Designer), Mud Blue Sky, Solstice, Accidentally Like a Martyr, Red Handed Otter, and The Mutilated. She has also been the Dramaturg of Killing Game, the Production Manager of Pumpgirl, and the Costume Advisor/Assistant for Celebration and The New Electric Ballroom.

Other favorite productions around Chicago include Alice in Bed (Trap Door), Haymarket Eight (Steppenwolf Arts Exchange), Julius Caesar (Strawdog), Highlife (Victory Gardens/Shattered Globe), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Invitation to a March, Real Classy Affair, and Frozen Assets (Shattered Globe).

Karen’s costume design for Lower Depths at Shattered Globe won a Jeff Citation, and her design for Warhawks and Lindberghs at Shattered Globe was nominated for a Jeff Award.
