
Shade Murray
Shade Murray joined the Ensemble in 2013 and currently serves as the Associate Artistic Director. At A Red Orchid, he directed the world premieres of Brett Neveu’s Pilgrim’s Progress and Ike Holter’s Sender, as well as productions of Bess Wohl’s Small Mouth Sounds, Wallace Shawn’s Evening At The Talk House, David Adjmi’s 3C, Marisa Wegrzyn’s Mud Blue Sky and The Butcher of Baraboo, Annie Baker’s The Aliens, Nick Jones’ Trevor, Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party and Kimberly Akimbo by David Lindsay-Abaire. He also performed in A Red Orchid's production of The Mutilated.
Other Chicago theaters where Shade has worked include, Second City (Fatty Arbuckle…), Writers’ Theater (The Chosen, The Subject was Roses), Next Theater (End Days), Strawdog (The Petrified Forest, The Good Soul of Szechuan, R.U.R., Marathon ‘33, Detective Story, WRLS #5, Our Country’s Good), and Roadworks Theatre (Stupid Kids, Some Explicit Polaroids, Santaland Diaries, Never Swim Alone). Shade also directed productions at Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Steep Theatre, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Shattered Globe Theatre, About Face Theatre and Chicago Moving Company.
He is a lecturer at the University of Chicago and teaches at DePaul University and Acting Studio Chicago.
