A message from Associate Artistic Director Travis A. Knight:
Dear friend,
What a season we’ve had at A Red Orchid Theatre! We began the year with the celebratory world premiere of REVOLUTION, laughed and gasped through the winter with the Chicago Premiere of IN QUIETNESS, and took up camp at The Chopin Theatre in Wicker Park for the world premiere of TURRET. Beyond our mainstage productions, we also welcomed audiences to four A Taste of Red Readings at The Understudy Bookstore in Andersonville and two incubator projects in our theater on Wells St: THE RECEPTIONIST by Kalliope and Co and ZAC EFRON by Token. And now, we’re proud to present ROAD SIGNS this August. We’ve been busy!
As an artist, I had been looking forward to performing in TURRET for three years. This new thriller was chock full of A Red Orchid Ensemble Members and long-time collaborators and venturing to a new space provided an incredible new arena for our astounding team. When we were first considering producing TURRET outside of our home space we were all excited about the tremendous new artistic possibilities we could explore but had a lingering homesickness. While our Old Town theatre is irreplaceable, I was so inspired to find that what makes our shows feel truly unique and our own, lies with our artists and the tenacity and honesty with which we tackle the work. That care is what makes me so proud to be a part of this ensemble and organization. To put it simply: home is where the heart is and Orchids were blooming wildly at The Chopin Theatre!
Thank you for your continued patronage and support of our ever-evolving, challenging, and risky work. We are ecstatic to open our new season with yet another world premiere with THE CAVE by Ensemble Member (and my dear friend) Sadieh Rifai in the winter and a TBD production in the Spring. As we embark on yet another season, I hope you’ll consider a donation to support our 32nd and the future of our theatre. A gift of any size makes a tremendous impact and between now and Aug 31, 2024, a contribution of $320 or more will sponsor a new audience chair for our theatre and entitles you to an engraved placard with the name of your choice to be displayed in our lobby. We hope you’ll consider participating in the Build our House Campaign and make your mark on our theatre.
Something kind,
Travis A. Knight
Associate Artistic Director
